Evaluations

Jim & Trudy Lawson, Founders and Executive are pleased to announce the Calgary Redbirds Baseball Club are planning an expansion for the 2011 Season.

As some of you may know last year during evaluations we had enough players for most of the age groups to create two teams, however players alone are not enough to support a high level organization. Providing top level coaching to all teams was our biggest concern as coaching & development is the cornerstone of our organization.  As a result we decided to limit the number of players/teams for our inaugural season.  Jim Lawson, Technical Director is pleased to announce that we are confident in our ability to build a quality coaching staff to support more teams.  Based on age and registration our goal is to create a tiered level of teams expanding the number of players and teams to a nine team organization.

The American Division – (10U to 14U) will be our top team playing a tournament schedule (similar to 2010) –throughout Western Canada and the US. The goal and focus of this division will be to take our players to the highest level of competition rewarding our most skilled & hardworking players.

The National Division – (10U to 14U) will be our developmental team playing within the Baseball Alberta League - generally speaking this team will host the younger players of each age group. By playing within the Alberta Baseball Performance level it will allow our younger players to develop the skills and confidence needed to compete at higher levels in the future.

Calgary AAA Redbirds Team – will be our All Star team comprised of players 16 years of age and older. The roster will be established by an invitational try-out & selected by Jim Lawson and the Head Coach. This team will compete throughout the spring and summer at the highest level of baseball in Western Canada and the US.

Calgary AA Redbirds Team – will be our second All Star team comprised of players 15 years of age and older, playing a tournament schedule (similar to 2010) Competing in American Legion & Midget level tournaments throughout Western Canada and the US.  The roster will be established through evaluations.

Calgary A Redbirds Team – will be our developmental team of players ages 15 years of age and older. Playing within the Baseball Alberta League, Midget Division plus travel tournaments throughout Western Canada and the US. Generally speaking this team will host the younger players. The goal and focus of this division is to develop the skills and confidence needed to compete at higher levels in the future.

Teams up to and including the 14U will have both the American and National Divisions. Players 15 years + will be evaluated and placed on one of 3 teams; A Redbirds, AA Redbirds or the AAA Redbirds.
